In this mini video feature, join NwWU host, Crystal Genes Photography as she chats with Trixy Woodhouse, owner of Black Thistle Co., at Urban Studio.
Trixy creates custom wedding invitations and other stationery and paper goods. Black Thistle Co is geared toward the unconventional couple who want a modern wedding with an edge. Frills and flowers definitely aren’t the focus of the majority of her design work.
She said, “I like to call out to the couples who (like myself) aren’t super traditional and don’t quite want something overly soft or romantic. A lot of my inspiration comes from modern architecture and street art; a lot of bold colors and clean lines and that’s where I feel I am unique with my design aesthetic, because it’s a little more unconventional. I love to have fun with designs and see where I can push the envelope, pun intended!
What I love most about my business is being able to create that surprise and delight not just for my couples but for their guests as well by being the first impression of what to expect for the big day. It generates that excitement and anticipation of what to look forward to. I also love that the partnerships with my couples become friendships since we work together for months or even up to a year leading up to their wedding, it’s quite wonderful getting to know them over that time.”

TRIXY’S TIP FOR ALL COUPLES
If there’s traditions or things that you feel are expected of you that you don’t like when it comes to weddings or even just paper goods, you don’t have to do them. You can do your own things, make your own rules, and make the wedding as unique as your relationship.
